The Bean Concoction in Christmas dinner

I guess it is a standard dish, I just didn't know what it was called.  I'd had it once before and loved it but never knew what to call it.  It is made for those who think green beans should be cast out of all cook books.  It will change your mind. Well.  it sure did change my mind.

These are plain old snap beans, not much flavor in them except just some sort of green taste.  but they are thoroughly cooked with a couple of cans of mushroom soup and a small amount of milk and some french fried onions all mixed in together.

For me it is a taste sensation.  For the first time in my life, green beans taste really good.  and it all went perfectly well with the roast.  and I didn't have to eat a horse while I waited.

Doggone it the pie disappeared before I was ready for desert but I had French vanilla ice cream and was a very satisfied customer.

although in our house a man is the cook, it is generally woman’s work. YOU are or the opinion that women must prepare each item hat is required for Chdristmas dinner?

What has gender got to do with this? Generally, men are better at cooking because they love doing it (or it’s a calling) while women consider it a duty (to feed the family) and a chore. Seems like you are the “woman” in the house and you resort to using canned food to make cooking an easier chore.

Where is the love? It’s Christmas and you are feeding the family. For just one frigging day in the whole stinking year, can you not give them a better meal using ingredients that are fresh, safe, carefully grown and not tainted with toxic additives and conditioners?

It’s your opinion and you are welcome to it. The so called fresh vegetables at the market are just as tainted, possibly more so than the canned goods. Cans are not necessarily cheaper or less valuable. It depends on who is selling them and who is buying what for the grocery store.

I know. I lived in New York for some years where some people would rather die than serve canned foods. But they can be as good or better than the fresh market.

Ok, Tomas. It’s a free country. Anton Ego would not award you a Michelin Star for sure.

It’s the Campbell’s Green Bean Casserole with/ French’s Fried onions. A can or two of Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup, mixed with green beans & baked then topped with fried onions for the table. The recipe was created by Campbell’s in the 1950’s.

I think there is a Tbsp of Worchestershire in that recipe

I think you are right. My son-in-law never tells but he has a cabinet full of many flavors just of vinegar and sauces and is very precise should it be Frenche’s or should it be lea & Perrin’s, for instance. aAnd who knew there were hundreds of different kinds of hot sauce?

Silly boy, I have a brother who said the same thing for mushrooms as you until one time at a Chinese restaurant when we were sharing around some from the different dishes each of us had ordered. He sampled the dish that our sister had ordered and remarked that the meat in that dish was really good. It took the rest of the family about 5 minutes to figure out what was wrong with that statement. Then it struck us that she had ordered a vegetarian dish.

perhaps he would have too but we never let him forget how much he liked the “meat” in a vegetarian dish

Green beans, drained, cream of mushroom soup, soy sauce, milk, fried onions, grated cheese. It’s a magical combination if you know how to combine it.

That stuff is delicious and might I add, if you make your own cream of mushroom soup very easy it is even more delicious. Oh and the fried onions. Yup you can make your own onions as well. It is far more yummy that way in my opinion.
